Can you please give us your name, name of your band, and instrument you play?
Flange Grinder, the band is SPG (Special Patrol Group), Lead guitar and vocals.
What has been your band's proudest moment to date?
It had always been SPG's dream make it into Fred Negro's Pub Strip, and when we made it last year…. Well, I'll tell you, the love juices were flowing all' round.
What do you think is your band's greatest strength?
Well if you had asked Bull Dozer our bass player, he would say it is our impeccable dress sense, but I would have to say it is my well chiselled buns. I have really been working them of late.
What was the band's worst gig ever and why?
It is very difficult to isolate one particular moment, there have been so many.
If you could time travel back to any gig in history which would it be and why?
We played a show with the Fuck Fucks at the Espy once. This was a great gig, but I lost the battery cover on my Big Muff distortion pedal. I would like to go back in time to get it back.
What movie do you think your music would best accompany and why?
Hmm, it would have to be a toss up out of: Metropolis, Jacques Tati's “Mononcle”, and Grunt the Wrestling Movie.
What are the band's plans for the immediate future? And rest of the year?
I guess there will be a brief recovery period after our Big Day Out show at 3pm on the Lilypad stage with the Twits, but after that, we will be squeezing out more of the sausage that is rock in the coming months. Keep an eye out for “re-recordable” the CD, coming out after July.
What is your favourite song lyric and why?
Dr Dr, when I go to the toilet it feels like I'm pissing razor blades,

You have a urinary tract infection, drink lots of water and cranberry juice, take these antibiotics and hope you don't get thrush to....

I like pina coladas, I'm not much into health food, I am into champagne.

Once again I'll have to say pina coladas. And making love, in the dunes of the cape.

If there was one person you could choose as your mentor who would it be and why?
Al Denuche' from the Mentors. Because he was my favourite Mentor .
Best performance memory:
I remember sustaining for over 4 minutes one time.. that was my best performance ever.
How did you meet the band?
We were sort of put together by a group of marketing experts.. a bit like the Monkeys, or Warrant. We had never spoken to each other before signing a 12 year contract.
If you could perform anywhere in the world where would it be?
The Tungamah Hall is a nice venue
Tell us why we should vote for you for the ‘Peoples Choice Award'?
We deserve it more than those other pretenders. No disrespect to the other bands, but they really are the pits.
How does a crowd affect your performance?
We feed off the kid's energy…. We do it all for the kids you see.
What inspires your songs?
I think the good Lord (Rick Flair) inspires a lot of our songs.
What was your first song about?
SPG's fist song was about Goebbels the “propaganda king of Germany ”…. “you had to sleep with him to be in his movies…”
What's your day job / what do u study?
I make more than enough money with SPG, but I like to polish turds during the day for fun
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I guess the rock n roll life style is starting to get to me you know… so probably in some sort of semi retirement… just getting back with the band for those “rock against drugs”, or “Rock against Fred Negro” shows..
What music did you grow up listening to?
Predominantly Muddy Creek Bush Band and Brady Bunch Lawnmower Massacre
Is anyone else in your family a musician?
Yes.
If you could sit down to dinner with 3 other people who would they be?
Kylie, Namomi, and Linda Evangelista (im a big man and likes me food)

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to whittle.

The entire yngwie malmsteen collection on MP3s… straight from Thailand .
What was the last concert you went to?
The Fuck Fucks reunion show.

The small bit of skin between the underside of the testicals and the anus… not sure why
How has Brittany Spears influenced your music?
We know all claim to be virgins in the band. This has not really changed the music, but we get laid a lot more after shows now.
Do you have a party trick?
Getting drunk, saying things that I really shouldn't, such as how the host has put on weight, then going home and being sick….

I was brought up to believe that sort of thing is sick. Back home in Cobram, they still lynch people for dressing up like that.

Rod and Tod. Not in a sexual way though you understand.
